Ralph Springett

EXMSS is committed to providing services and representation for students in a transparent and accountable manner as directed by the EXMSS membership. In 2012 the President of EXMSS will take a lead role in student enagement at Massey University. The EXMSS President will express the concerns and opinions, and advocate for  distance students thoughout New Zealand. Check out the EXMSS strategic plan for 2012-14.

The President’s Blog” is a rich environment where you can read my views, and others comments, on a wide range of issues that affect you. Provision of printed (rather than digital) study material has been a focus of my concerns recently. Voluntary membership of student associations is here. What does this mean for student associations and the student voice on campus? Read about representing student views to the University as we manage this period of change.

EXMSS: membership now an option

Membership of EXMSS will be voluntary in 2012. Services delivered to all students will be delivered independently of EXMSS although during the transition period some may still be managed by EXMSS.

I am pleased to say that EXMSS has a clear strategic plan, clarity about the services it wishes to provide to its members and good strategies for providing an independent voice for distance and part time students.

For the first months of 2012 membership of EXMSS will be free! If you are enrolled for 2012 I advise you to join EXMSS – we will update you on the process in the New Year.  Read more….

Accessing a Printed Study Guide

Following students concerns about student access to printed study material EXMSS President, Ralph Springett has brokered a solution with Massey University.

The issue is a transition that is not clear to all those involved. The discussion in the Materials and Modes forum suggested that a set of criteria would be applied to the free provision of study material, but as this has not yet been finalised the existing policy stands. The policy states that material essential for course completion must be provided in printed form if the student requests it.

The problem is that not all lecturers are aware of this. If you have a problem with getting hold of printed material, send Ralph an email and he will ensure you receive it post-haste and for free. He is urging the University to clarify this with lecturers so the problem does not become widespread.
