EXMSS Scholarships
The Extramural Students’ Society (EXMSS) has recently announced an extended suite of scholarships for extramural students The following six scholarships are now available for application by Massey extramural students and prospective students.
The EXMSS Scholarship for Academic Excellence is available to all extramural students who have completed 15 papers or are about to enrol in their final year of study. Up to five winners are chosen for this scholarship, which has been allocated $5000.
The EXMSS Scholarship for Disabled Students is available to extramural students with disabilities, whose academic progress is impeded by financial barriers arising from their disability. One scholarship of up to $1000 is available.
The EXMSS Regional Retention Scholarship is available to any extramural who has completed at least one extramural paper, in their first year of study. This scholarship is to assist returning extramurals. Up to four scholarships of $500 each are awarded to two students from the North Island and two students from the South Island.
The EXMSS Bi-Cultural Retention Scholarship is available to Maori extramural students, who have completed at least one extramural paper. One scholarship of up to $1000 is available.
The Trade to Tertiary Scholarship is available for tradespeople who are beginning their tertiary extramural study. Up to three winners are chosen for this scholarship, which has been allocated $3000.
The EXMSS Second-Chance Extramural Scholarship is available for students enrolling for the first time in any Bachelor’s degree programme. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage mature students to enter into tertiary studies. One scholarship of up to $1000 is available.

BreakOut is a searchable database – the database will give you the best matches of scholarships, awards and grants you are eligible for in terms of criteria, level of study and discipline along with closing dates, application requirements and contact details.
Unfortunately you won’t be able to use this database for free from home as BreakOut is a paid access service; however you can access the database for free from any Massey University campus computer or the computers available for use at any StudyLink outreach office.

Massey University Masterate Scholarship
This scholarship is for students who are enrolled or eligible to enrol full-time in a research programme of their Masters degree. The research component must be 90 – 120 credits or in two research papers studied in consecutive semesters that constitute a single project overall. A full-time candidate will be expected to work 40 – 50 hours per week on their Masterate qualification. Consideration will normally only be given to students with a GPA of 6.5 or better (on a 9 point scale), or a B+ average or better in graduate level papers.
The value of the Masterate Scholarship shall be $15,000. There are 2 closing dates for this scholarship ie. 1 July & 1 October. The closing date of 1 July is for those intending to pursue their Masters programme in Semester Two this year whereas the closing date of 1 October is for students intending to pursue their Masters programme in Semester One next year.

The Māori Education Trust is financed from private bequests and trusts set up from individuals or businesses. A primary function of the Trust is to provide and administer scholarships in education for Māori students.

Masterate Scholarships and Doctoral Scholarships for Maori Students are offered for the purpose of encouraging postgraduate research at an approved New Zealand University, Wananga or Tertiary Institution.
A total of four Masterate Scholarships and two Doctoral Scholarships may be awarded in 2010 for the 2011 academic year. The value of the scholarships are:
Masterate Scholarship $2,500
Doctoral Scholarship $5,000
Scholarship recipients will be notified before the Conference and must attend the Conference in order to receive their award.
The scholarships are open to Maori postgraduate students in agriculture, natural resource management, environment, ecology or any discipline related to Maori land development with an emphasis on sustainability and use of natural resources.
Students must be enrolled or eligible to enrol full-time for the thesis research component of their Masterate or Doctoral degree.
The Whenua Conference Scholarship Committee reserves the right to refrain from making an award if applicants are not of sufficient merit.
Applications must be received by Sunday 4 July 2010.
Registration
The first fifteen (15) students to apply for the Student Poster Exhibit Competition and/or Application for Masterate or Doctoral Scholarship for Maori Students will receive a complimentary registration to attend the full Conference, 21 to 23 July 2010 including the Conference Dinner on Thursday 22 July 2010.
