Congratulations on your extramural tertiary academic journey @ Massey University!

I am your Extramural Maori Student representative within EXMSS and I can provide an independent voice to advocate for you, and to ensure a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi in the delivery of all EXMSS services.

I commenced my tertiary studies in 1998, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor in Business Studies, majoring in Business Law.  I am currently ¾ the way through my post graduate diploma in business administration with the intention to complete my methodology paper in 2013, focusing on Maori governance.  I also have provided extensive support to extramural students in the Taranaki region, focusing on Maori students.

Important values that underpin my role include:

  • Whānaungatanga
  • Aroha
  • Manaakitanga
  • Rangatiratanga
  • Kotahitanga and Kaitiakitanga

*Keen on an awesome opportunity to join the EXMSS waka to attend the annual hui  for Maori students?  This is facilitated by Te Mana Akonga,  National Maori Students Association and provides ample opportunity for kapahaka, karaoke, korero and hakinakina matches against other Maori tertiary students in Aotearoa.

I have a regular blog that updates on a monthly basis on issues of important to Maori students and regional hui, so please feel to take a look and share your thoughts.   My blog can be found here: http://www.exmss.org/maori.

Items you might find informative to read include:

  • Scholarship hints and tips
  • EXMSS Maori Engagement Survey results
  • Graduation highlights
  • Did you know you have a Maori student voice on Massey Council
  • Personal insights to studying by distance, working, being a parent and netball coach

My passion and drive for this role rests with you, Maori extramural students, kia kaha kia maia kia manawanui, I would love to hear from you throughout your studies and would welcome your feedback at anytime.

No reira tena koutou, kia ora koutou katoa

Tiri Porter
