I just received my study guides today. I’m still waiting for my exam results, which havn’t even arrived to nz to be marked. It kind of makes me angry how slow the process can be with me being all the way here in Egypt. I did this impaired performance application because I got very sick during my last 2 exams which happened to be on the same day. It was nerve recking I got so so sick.
Anywho, how did it go with everyone? I think we all need to connect more it’s a great idea!

Hey Group! Finally heading back to Oz at long last this weekend. Anyone else going to be studying extramurally in Sydney?
Hi Grace,
I am also a Sydney extramural. Judging by the turnout at my Sem 1 exams, there are quite a few of us here. I don’t think we are studying the same thing but I am always here if you’re in need of some moral support, if the extramural study gets too much!
Kate.Hi Kate,
It’s just nice to know there are other Massey students here, it doesn’t matter what you’re studying. I only arrived back here a couple of weeks ago (I did my exams in NZ before I came back to avoid the overseas exam fees!), so I didn’t get to meet people outside the exam room as you usually do. I’m doing a BSC in Earth Science, and I’m terrified, so I’ll take all the moral support I can get.
Hey Grace, Im in Syd too, starting my first extramural paper this coming monday, hoping it goes well. What are you studying?
Cheers, Rach.Hi Rachel,
I’ve just started a BSC in Earth Science, although I already did a BA through Massey (yes, I’m one of those people who did a degree and then completely changed what she wanted to do with her life) so I’ve been studying with Massey since 2005. Trust me when I say there is an end! Also, my Mum just started at Massey and she’s 53 and hasn’t studied since her teens so you’re certainly not alone. Good luck and if anyone in Sydney ever wants to meet up for a coffee sometime just to share some much needed caffeine and chat about studnet life, drop me a line.
Im also going to be taking some earth science/ environmental science papers to make up the rest of the degree so will defintely be good to catch up, at this stage im thinking of doing the Intro to Earth Science as a double for next year so will see how I go. Cheers.
Hi Grace & Rachael,
I would be keen to meet up for a coffee sometime. I think it is pretty hard being an extramural, esp. overseas. It is nice to have other people who know what I am going through =)Hi Ladies,
Sorry for taking ages to reply I’ve been running around like a headless chicken looking for a job (oh the joy!). I’d love to meet up sometime if we can arrange it, and I can bring my Mum as well who is a fellow Massey extramural and will be getting signed up to this site in the next few days. She’s doing Arts but she’d love to have some fellow students to talk to apart from me!

still waiting for my study guides, and having to decide whether to have them all sent to my father in NZ, as I am coming home for a month, but then I loose several kilos of my luggage allowance on the way home!
I know how you feel Fiona. I’m trying to work out when is the best date for me to head back to Australia with the posting of semester 2 folders in mind. If I get them sent to me here in NZ I don’t have to pay the overseas postage fees, but then if they’re late arriving my plans get skewed…arggh. Just one of the many delights of being an overseas student! Hope you enjoyed your month home in NZ
Hi Grace, being home was awesome. My father was in great shape, and I came up to Massey and spent all my time in the bar with my lovey philosophy lecturers! They like gin. Then I saw my beloved Peter Singer, writer of the seminal work on animal rights, Animal Liberation, in Wellington. I got him to sign my carton of books. Oh, it was such a wonderful moment to meet him…I now have his email address….:-)
Hi Fiona,
I completely missed this message until now sorry
Glad you enjoyed your time back in NZ. Hanging out in the bar with the philosophy people sounds like a blast! And I envy you that email address! My big news is that I’ve switched subjects and I am now, completely randomly, doing science. I am still madly in love with philosophy, but I absolutely hate my work, and I want to get a job that I’ll be happy in. So I’m doing science and hoping that lands me a day job that I love, and will keep studying philosophy in my spare time (much easier here in Sydney, there are so many public lectures at the local unis and in melbourne etc), and then when I have the time and money I will come back to Philosophy again (and I will try to sneak in the Philosophy of Science paper in my BSC if I’m allowed). How’s the UK?

Indeed they can. Fortunately my Mum is starting as a fellow Massey extramural this year – woop! – and we are in three of the same classes so we can book share on those ones. I'll have to get her signed up here when I can.

The study guides have started arriving! Thank God. I am really bored. Unfortunately, with the folders come the bills for the textbooks. Eek!

Hi Rachael,
I live in Sydney also. I am doing a B Information Sciences which is similar to you. Do you know what your major is going to be yet?
Kate.
Im majoring in Zoology…Im a huge animal lover, currently employed as a vet nurse at the RSPCA here in Syds…Love my job but want to study so thats why Im starting extramural. How far into your course are ya?
I am 5 papers down, 19 to go eek! My majors are maths/stats & finance. I did the communication paper first too, I think it was a pretty good one to start with.
Yay, more Sydney people. I was beginning to think it was just me and my Mum (a fellow Massey extramural).
