A very good meeting. Good questions from students present and on the net. Thank you to all who attended. It looks like we are all good with our strategic plans - steady as she goes, and quite nicely too.

You will have to book if you arrive at the train station. Phone 027 481 9072 for Warwick from supershuttle. Don't forget to become a member (www.exmss.org) and get your membership number which you will need to get the low cost rides.

SuperShuttle is based at PN airport. They will be there when you arrive. Join EXMSS and you will travel for $6 to the Campus and free on the scheduled returns. Don't forget to bring your EXMSS membership number which you receive when you become a member.

It really depends on the particular contact course. Some of them are great, some of them are not. I personally do not find two days of sitting in a room being talked at valuable, but I do find group discussions, mini-projects such as preparing a topic to do a short reading or presentation on etc, to be valuable.

Regardless of academic value, my biggest problem with contact courses has always been the timing, cost, and location. Palmerston North is not the easiest or cheapest place to get to, and for example if a contact course is on a wednesday and thursday, I most likely have to travel up tuesday and back friday (or miss large chunks of it, in which case what is the point?), meaning that it becomes a lot more hassle and more expensive not just in terms of actual cost but also in days off work etc.

I love the idea of meeting my fellow students and my lecturers and tutors, and I would love to go to more contact courses but more often than not I just can't afford the time or the money for them.

Have found contact courses always valuable. Especially those I have attended for Chinese language. The opportunity to intensively review the materials for about half the course and practise speaking in Chinese was really helpful. I have also attended history contact courses and there is always extra value in that. Both in terms of extra material, discussion about what might be in the exam and the networking with students and lecturers. Please please keep them!
