Executive Election Process

Calling for Nominations for the EXMSS Exec Committee

Would you like to be involved with the governance of EXMSS? The Massey University Extramural Students’ Society (EXMSS) is now calling for nominations for the executive committee for the next two years (2011 and 2012). Nominations must be in writing and must reach the EXMSS office by 4pm Monday 30th August, 2010.

There are four positions to be filled:
President
One northern North Island representative (defined as the area north of a line drawn between Gisborne and New Plymouth);
One southern North Island representative (defined as the area south of a line drawn between Gisborne and New Plymouth (including Hawke’s Bay);
One South Island representative (defined as the whole South Island)

Eligibility: to qualify for nomination, you must be a full member (paid a full EXMSS membership fee in 2010) or associate member of EXMSS. Your nomination must be proposed and seconded by current full members of EXMSS.

If two or more candidates stand for a position an election will be held. This year EXMSS will be holding executive elections online, using the Christchurch based company Electionz.com. Electionz.com has been in business for 10 years and has had experience running elections for Universities court of convocations elections, iwi and local councils. In the case of an election, EXMSS members will be notified by email on 6th September.

Current executive members who, in accordance with the EXMSS constitution, will remain for a further year are:

• Alyse Foster (northern North Island)
• David Crampton (southern North Island)
• Mark Lester (South Island)
• Tiri Porter (Maori Representative)

The EXMSS executive committee meets eight times a years. Meetings are mostly in the form of an evening teleconference but face to face meetings also occur regularly throughout the year. Committee members receive an honorarium and any expenses are reimbursed.  Full details of the executive committee members’ responsibilities are available at the EXMSS office.
